Club History
On the 22 October 2008 our Club had its first meeting in Newbury, Berkshire with 7 members. These were early days for our Club and we are pleased the way it has developed in such a short period of time, with such a variety of interesting professional business people.
Our Club celebrated its first Anniversary on the 28th October 2009 and has continued to develop and grow successfully. During springtime 2010 an Events Programme (click onto link) was introduced which has proved to be most popular with our members. To-date there have been visits to a picturesque estate, viewing at a local auctioneers and a tour around a local radio station. In addition members’ Short Talks (click onto link) were introduced to give an insight into our members’ business, profession, hobbies and interests.
Our Club’s Second Anniversary on the 27th October 2010 was celebrated by extending an invitation to Hungerford Probus Club members and included a photography competition event for our members. A high standard of photographs were entered and displayed and everyone had 5 votes each for which they considered the best entries. The finale which commenced during luncheon was a Magical Cabaret performed by an illusionist and a close-up magician. This proved to be a most joyful and magical occasion.
During April 2011 a monthly Coffee Morning (click onto link) was successfully launched being an open invitation to members and their guests. This gave opportunities to meet informally at a local venue and to enjoy one another's wit and scintillating conversation.
Our Club's third Anniversary on Wednesday 26th October 2011 was celebrated successfully as previous years. Over this period of time it had also become customary to celebrate our Pre-Christmas Luncheon Meetings and to extend an open invitation to guests. On the 12th December 2011 a Close-up Magician demonstrated his magical expertise prior to and during luncheon followed by a Guest Puppeteer's presentation of "The History of Punch & Judy". Both occasions were thoroughly enjoyed by all and the friendship and fellowship of our Club has been reflected by our membership gaining a steady growth to 40 members, having an equal ratio of ladies and gentlemen.
